Design Category opened in my Portfolio

So it has been quite a while since I started playing with designs and ideas, and I decided to collect some of my best work and put it in my portfolio as well… in the artistic world one of the main requirements is versatility, the capacity to be able to work with different mediums and styles… so just for fun during the years I put together some designs and some advertising ideas I had in mind… advertising and design I will tell you are not my main focus but I do enjoy working on them as long as I like the subject… so here some little examples of my work.. more to come in the portfolio section!

Katy Perry – Firework

Just wanted to share with you this song that I cannot erase from my mind and neither I can stop from singing it in public places! It is extremely catchy and I know that a lot of you might not like Katy Perry… and I don’t go crazy for her either, but this song is special, true and meaningful.. and the music video is just great! I think it is very artistic even though it falls in the obvious and cliche too many times… but come on, for Katy Perry this song is great and the video too… and honestly this is probably one of the times in 6 months that I can sing this song in public.. there is something to it that really gets me! After all we all have a firework inside! (oops that was cliche!)

Toronto Skyline and CN Tower

I found this photo in an old memory card and I decided to try something new… this is the final result.. I only used some very simple accent after I transformed the photo in B/W… not bad.. it took me about 2 minutes.. and you can tell some details are bad I know… but over all it is ok… and as you know, I can never get enough of the Toronto’s skyline…

Stop Motion videos in IMovie ’09

I had a bunch of pictures I took one night when raining in Toronto, and some that I took at the Botanical Garden and I did not want to edit all of them or either I liked all of them.. so I thought to test the pictures in a little stop motion movie! All I used is IMovie ’09 and the results are great!

Snow texture is Photoshop! Tips and Tricks

Here is how I personally like to do snow in Photoshop! Either I find a nice snow texture already made and ready to go, or I go crazy and create one with Photoshop… and it is very very easy! I create a black layer and I add noise to it, as much as I need, and I make sure that you use the Gaussian option! Then you blur it obviously as much as you need it or as much as you want it to be blurred.. I usually use the function blur more of photoshop.. it works just fine! Another cool thing you can do that gives you full control over the snow effect is going to be the levels function, it allows you to control the quantity! Once you get the snow to be visible you can go crazy and personalize it as you like! I love adding the motion blur effect, it makes it look real and in motion, instead of flat white dots.. Once one layer is “good enough” then you could copy it and rotate it 180… trust me it will look fantastic.. I have done it in the picture above.. on the rotated layer I used the crystallize function of photoshop to give the snow a different texture..

Abstract by mistake!

I rarely ever do abstract figures or photography… I am a visual person, and I need to be able to clearly visualize things.. I do not like to imagine about them, I like to see them! This one is a little different because this shot is just a “mistake”.. I took a shot while moving the camera.. I do know there is a technique called panning that does precisely this.. and I do like this picture.. cause of the lights and cause you can see on the right side my friend John running… for what I know this could be a picture taken from a movie! some super fast super hero running in the streets of Toronto! I hope you like it!

Francesco Giorgio Photoshoot Italy

I finally posted some of the pictures from the photoshoot with Francesco Giorgio. The Photo shoot took place in Italy during my last vacation, he is a model that works in Milan and looking to update and do some more creative work with me! Beside being a model he is also my good friend, we grew up in the same city in Italy.. it is funny to see how things change and how no matter far away you are somehow you will still meet! I really did enjoy doing this photo shoot even though at some times I thought I was going to die (after having to walk on 30 feet high rocks on the ocean to get to a private beach)… but hey it was worth it! for the full gallery (still under construction) go here

Toronto free wifi spots and Photo editing

So here I am writing from Starbucks, and I mean, it is not like I do not have internet at home, I do, but sometimes I feel that being a photographer or a digital artist you kinda loose contact with the outside world! So going out and sitting in a coffee shop kinda gives me the impression that after all I am still part of the community and I am not that isolated! So here I come with my post, where do you find free wifi hot spots in Toronto when you feel like you lost touch with the rest of the world? Toronto has many many coffee shops and many many places that offer free wifi internet! But which ones are nice enough to seat and be able to edit pictures without being disturbed by people? Well that is a very hard question to answer! It all depends what gives you inspiration and what makes you relax! These are my favorite locations in Toronto:

Starbucks not mentioning it in the list of coffee shops with wifi internet would be wrong, cause first I love it, and second because I think it is great! I personally love the environment and Toronto in the downtown area has many many locations… finding a seat it is hard, I will give you that, especially during lunch hours or coffee time from the corporate offices upstairs, but most of the time you will manage to find a seat. Their coffee needs to be mentioned, I mean, what would the world look like without a Caramel Macchiato or an Americano? Environment is another big one for me, I find starbucks to be very very relaxing and it helps me write, because as you might now already I am a visual person, I need to visualize things to be inspired… where else am I going to find people if not at starbucks?

Dark Horse (China Town) I loved this place since the first time I set foot in there! their coffee is legendary and their lattes are just to die for, photo editing wise? I don’t know, it depends what I am editing… since the setting of the coffee shop is a little different then what you might be expecting, tables are long and people seat all together… If I am editing some fashion/glamor shots I am ok, but if my photos include nudes and such I’d rather not sit beside a 60 years old looking over my screen.. that just would not make me feel comfortable.. it is though definitely worth checking out dark horse cause it is very nice and their prices are fairly cheap when compared to Starbucks… so make sure you check it out!

The Drake Hotel Cafe The name if you are from Toronto should say it all, it is a Toronto legend… I don’t really go crazy for their menu or food even though is very very good, what I really like is the environment and the kind of people that hang out there… I have never been at the Drake without somehow meeting or talking to a photographer or artist.. Queen Street west is after all the street of artists… when I am there no matter what I am working on or doing I feel accepted as an artist, I feel safe… it is a nice feeling.. and the staff is great… most of them are actually either artists trying to pay their bills or anyway interested in art! God I love it…
